IPTV Reseller Device Compatibility: A Guide for UK Resellers
Published: 2025-05-24
Device compatibility is one of the most practical aspects of IPTV reselling. Your customers will use different devices — and your ability to guide them through setup on their specific device directly affects their satisfaction and reduces support queries. This guide covers the most common device types and the recommended setup approach for each.
Compatible Device Categories
IPTV subscriptions are compatible with any device that can run an IPTV player application or accept an M3U playlist. This includes: Android smartphones and tablets, iOS (iPhone/iPad), Android TV boxes (Firestick, Nvidia Shield, Mi Box, T95, BuzzTV), Smart TVs (Samsung, LG, Sony with app store access), Windows and Mac computers (via player software), and MAG boxes (dedicated IPTV set-top boxes).
Recommended Player Apps by Device
| Device | Recommended App |
|---|---|
| Android TV / Fire TV | TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro |
| Android Phone/Tablet | IPTV Smarters Pro, GSE Smart IPTV |
| iPhone / iPad | GSE Smart IPTV, IPTV Smarters (iOS) |
| Samsung Smart TV | Smart IPTV app, IceTV |
| LG Smart TV (webOS) | Smart IPTV app |
| Windows PC | VLC (M3U), IPTV Smarters (Windows) |
| MAG Box | Native MAC portal (Stalker middleware) |
The Two Setup Methods
Most IPTV player apps support two setup methods: (1) Xtream Codes — enter server URL, username and password directly; (2) M3U URL — enter the M3U playlist link that contains all channel streams. Both methods use credentials from the reseller panel. Xtream Codes is generally recommended where supported — it provides the best EPG integration and catch-up functionality.
Devices to Avoid or Approach Cautiously
Chromecast (standard) does not natively run IPTV apps — it requires casting from another device. Apple TV supports IPTV via apps but the App Store selection is more limited than Android. Smart TVs without an accessible app store (older models with locked platforms) cannot install IPTV player apps. Customers on these devices may need a dedicated Android streaming box as an alternative.
Multi-Connection Accounts
Customer accounts are set up with a connection count at activation. A 1-connection account allows one simultaneous stream from any device. A household wanting to watch on both a Smart TV and a phone simultaneously needs a 2-connection account. Set the connection count at account creation based on the customer's household streaming needs.
